Welcome to the DeWitt Fire District’s website! I appreciate you taking the time to visit us and we hope the information you find here proves helpful. DeWitt Fire is a diverse group of talented personnel that reflects the eclectic community that we serve. We are very fortunate to have some of the most talented fire service and emergency medical professionals as part of our organization. We consider public service as a privilege and value the trust we are given by the people we serve. We are dedicated to delivering our services in a courteous, expedient, and efficient manner.

For more than 75 years, our organization has strived to evolve and meet the challenges of providing a wide spectrum of services to a diverse community. Our greatest asset is our personnel who consistently go the extra mile in delivering these vital services in order to make our community a safer place to live and work. Our community has numerous residential neighborhoods, busy commercial corridors, many places of worship, educational institutions, light industrial and office complexes, recreational areas and major transportation routes all coexisting in a small geographical area. Together with similar neighboring jurisdictions we train to meet the inherent challenges of such demographics.

Organizationally, we are faced with an enormous task. The department's response area covers approximately 10 square miles and we serve a population of more than 10,000 with 3 on-duty firefighter/paramedics and an on-call force of volunteers. During 2009, we received 1,732 calls for emergency service. As a department, we must do more than simply respond when called; we must do all we can to prevent fires and prepare in advance for emergencies. We also offer services beyond the traditional scope of the fire department such as child protective seat inspections.

We value the history and tradition of the DeWitt Fire Department, an organization built upon the strong shoulders of our past leadership; without them we could not tackle the challenges of the future. As the Chief of Fire, I consider it my personal responsibility to make this community as safe as possible through our commitment to fire suppression and Emergency Medical Services, fire and life safety and emergency planning. I encourage you to browse through our web page to learn more about our department. Again, thank you for visiting and please let us know how we may be of service to you.
