2 Fires in the heat

 July 11, 2013

With the temperatures and humidity high crews kept busy battling 2 working structure fires. Engine Co. 8 responded to a fire at the Pompey Country Club on Hamilton Rd in the Pompey Hill Fire District. Engine 8 was the first full company to arrive and had the initial hand line in operation due to the extent of involvement the fire was outside operations.While Engine 8 was taking up at that fire scene Engine Co. 1Rescue Co. 7 responded to a working residential fire on W. Manlius St. in the Village of East Syracuse. The crew from Engine 1 went to the roof to perform vertical ventilation for the East Syracuse crews that were making an aggressive interior attack.

According to Binghamton National Weather Service, severe weather will begin moving into the Central NY area late tonight continuing through the early weekend.

A Wind Chill Warning is issued for areas along and east of I-81, and a Wind Chill Advisory for areas west of I-81 in Central NY.

Wind chills as low as 35 below zero are expected. These dangerously cold wind chills could cause frostbite on exposed skin in as little as 10 minutes. Avoid outside activities if possible. When outside, make sure you wear appropriate clothing leaving no exposed skin.
