Annual Statewide Burn Ban

 April 1, 2022

The annual statewide ban prohibiting brush burning began on March 16 and extends to May 14. Open burning—as in outdoor fires, burn barrels, backyard incinerators, or any fire that’s not vented through a stack or chimney—is not allowed, with few exceptions.

According to Binghamton National Weather Service, severe weather will begin moving into the Central NY area late tonight continuing through the early weekend.

A Wind Chill Warning is issued for areas along and east of I-81, and a Wind Chill Advisory for areas west of I-81 in Central NY.

Wind chills as low as 35 below zero are expected. These dangerously cold wind chills could cause frostbite on exposed skin in as little as 10 minutes. Avoid outside activities if possible. When outside, make sure you wear appropriate clothing leaving no exposed skin.
